On July 27th, 2023, the St. Vincent Coop hosted a vibrant Nutrition Month Celebration in Brgy. Pangulo, Calatrava, Romblon, emphasizing the theme “Healthy Diet,  Gawing Affordable for All.” The Activity aimed to educate the community, particularly identified malnourished children, about the importance of healthy eating and showcase how nutrition’s food can be accessible and budget-friendly. Through engaging activities, the celebration tackled various aspects of affordable nutrition. Information topics focused on the advantages of backyard gardening, empowering individuals to cultivate their fresh produce. Participants actively engaged in discussions, learning valuable tips on growing nutritious vegetables and fruits right at home.

The highlight of the event was a captivating cooking contest featuring local mothers as contestants. Equipped with locally sourced ingredients and guided by the principles of affordability and nutrition, they whipped up delicious and healthy dishes.

The competition showcased the creativity and resourcefulness of the community in preparing nutritious meals on a budget. The vent resonated deeply with the audience, leaving a lasting impact. Children learned valuable lessons about healthy eating habits, while community members gained practical knowledge on making nutritious choices within their budget. The celebration successfully emphasized the economic benefits of a healthy diet, highlighting how it contributes to overall well-being and empowers individuals to take charge of their health.

The St. Vincent Coop’s initiative serves as an inspiring example of hoe communities can collaborate to promote affordable nutrition. By providing accessible information, encouraging self-sufficiency through backyard gardening, and celebrating the resourcefulness of local cooks, the Coop empowered the community to make informed choices and embrace a healthier lifestyle.

The event was spearheaded by one of the Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Gender and Development (GAD) Committee and Municipal Health Officer of Municipality of Calatrava, Dr. Renato R. Menrige, Jr. together with the barangay officials headed by Hon. John Edwin Paz, Barangay Captain of Barangay Pangulo, Calatrava, Romblon. The event was also graced by the Municipal Vice-Mayor, Hon. Dishan F. Servanez together with other officers and employees of the St. Vincent Coop.
